Crabbing
When I was a little girl, every year my Dad and his friends would go crabbing down the shore. I was always welcome to go, but the thought of the crabs walking sideways at me creeped me out and kept me from enjoying the harvest. Driving by the bridges on the way to the shore, you can’t help but notice the crabbing shacks that rent equipment, or the many people standing by the water hoping to grab some crab! If you’d like to read about crabbing from a personal perspective, Darren has a great read over at DarrenBarefoot.com, as does Sarge Charlie who has a must read on crabbing with great pictures!
A great source of information on what you’ll need can be found here. Mississippi has some information on the life-cycles of the blue crab you can check out at the Department of Marine Resources. New Jersey offers us a look at crabbing techniques as well as cooking and picking crabs.
BlueCrab.info is all things blue crab!
And lastly, if you’re looking for some great recipes, I’ve got two sites for you. The first is Fisherman’s Express which has so many recipes for Alaskan King Crab, your head will spin with joy! The next is on about.com which offers up some Southern crab recipes.
