Get Smart: Review

Get Smart: Review

My son (14) and I (41) went to see “Get Smart”. I used to watch the television series with Don Adams, and loved it as a kid. My son went in, not knowing anything about the character.

I love the heart that they’ve given to the character, and Steve Carell did an excellent job in the part. Anne Hathaway did a bang up job as Agent 99.

It’s a fun movie that has you laughing, smiling, and having fun all the way through it. It’s a nice family film you can go to without being embarrassed in front of your kids.

I wouldn’t say it was belly laughs all the way through it, but we definitely laughed a lot. It had more heart than I expected, and kept us fully entertained.

Rant: Icee drinks set us back $5.00 each! Tickets $9.50 each

Get Smart or Love Guru?

There are two movies on our radar, Get Smart and Love Guru. Honestly, they both look like they could be funny, but will probably not live up to my expectations. I’ll see them anyway…

Mike Myers rocked my world with Austin Powers, and I adored all three of the movies. Honestly, the Austin Powers series is one of my all time favorites. I love things like that, Naked Gun, and other silly in your face nonsense in a movie. Something about Mary….my all time favorite movie, but the Austin Powers series is close behind it.

For that reason, and only that reason, I’m giving Love Guru a chance. I like Mike’s humor, and even though it looks stupid, I’m going to see if he can tickle my funny bone again.

Steve Carrell is an actor I really enjoy watching. While I’m not a huge fan of “The Office” on TV, I do love him in movies. Pretty much anything I’ve seen him in, I’ve been happy with. I grew up watching Don Adams in Get Smart, so it will be fun to see it as a movie.

I hope at least one of them surprises me and has me laughing all the way through it. Which one do you think it will be?

Kung Fu Panda Review

Kung Fu Panda was a good family film. It had humor, a message, and a nice story. With the voices and talents of Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman and Angelina Jolie the story came to life, and did so quite well.

Our entire theater was packed full with kids of all ages, and there was barely a seat left in the room. With all those kids, it can get a little loud, but the movie kept their attention and it remained quiet. That alone says a lot!

Boys and girls were well represented in this film, which I think is good. The Kung Fu Masters were both male and female, which is great to show strong characters can be either a boy or girl.

The message came across in a nice way that everybody could get. It was quite simple, but one that hit home.

If you’re looking for a good family film, this had adults and children laughing and watching happily.
This film is appropriate for both young children and older children. Parent approved, though warning, your older kids may feel this movie is too young for them to see. The audience WAS filled with mostly young children.

Kung Fu Panda Today?

I think we’re going to see “Kung Fu Panda” today. I’ve heard good things about it, and hope it holds up to my expectations. I’ve wanted to see it since I saw the first promo last year! My family on the other hand is like, eh, sure, we can go.

I get so excited when I see fun movie previews. I start poking the person next to me, “ooooh, I wanna seee that!!!!!”. My son says, I want to see everything! That’s not true, I go for comedies more than anything. I love a laugh out loud film. Hopefully today we see one! I’ll let you know what I thought if we see it

Did You Hear Something?

You know those movies that give you a spine tingle? Everyone’s sitting around quietly talking on the porch, and the next thing you know the wind chimes start jingling a little bit, but there’s not a breeze in the air. Somethings not quite right, and you’d better prepare yourself because….

something happens.

Those are the kinds of movies I can not watch! It turns out a new movie out, someone my family knows is in it; actually 2 people (kids)! They had a small part in the latest film “The Happening”. I’d love to go see it, so I can see their acting in it, but I’m terrified of scary movies. I guess I’ll just have to hear about it from someone else who sees it. Did I mention the part about being terrified of scary movies? No, seriously terrified!

Indiana Jones: An Aging Harrison Pulls it Off

I went to see Indiana Jones this week, along with a lot of other people. Turns out a couple of my friends saw it also, and well..with the huge box office win, everyone went to see it. Indiana Jones reminds me of McGyver. Remember him? He’d take a Patek twenty-4 watch, and turn it into some explosive or something so he could escape a situation.

Anyway, the movie itself was fun and full of action. It moved along quickly, all while keeping you engaged. I loved the pokes at his age in the movie. I did think some of the story was downright silly, and could have been better, we still went in to be entertained, and entertained we were. I like a movie that lets me laugh, as well as get caught in the action.

Well done Harrison…you pulled it off, even now. Harrison is aging, but he’s aging well, and I still find him sexy. Of course, I’ve aged a lot since last time these movies were out too!

The full family gives it a thumbs up for a fun, summer movie to see.

New Concession Cart

When we went to the movies this weekend, the theater we go to tried something new. We walked in, and in the actual theater where the screen is, there was a concession “cart”. They had a cart with an attendant who had candies and popcorn. They didn’t have the actual popcorn machines in there, but pre-bagged popcorn, with a “butter” dispenser if you wanted extra butter.

I’ll be curious to see how this goes over. I guess they’re hoping some last minute sales will work. This was the first time we’ve seen this, so I think it probably caught people off guard at first. It was more amusement seeing it there. Time will tell if it helps them increase sales. It’s a clever idea, but we didn’t see anyone buying this time.

Nothing to See

I have a 12 plex movie place near me. I just looked at what’s playing, and there’s nothing I’m interested in. 12 freaking screens, and not a movie to see.

I have these lull’s in time. You know Memorial Day and July 4th is the other big movie kick-offs, so in between they play this other stuff. The only thing that interested me, I’ve all ready seen…21. Good movie if you haven’t seen it.

No Movie, No Peanuts

Our flight was a short one, lasting a little over 2 hours. During that time, there’s no movie, because anymore, movies are almost 2 hours long! What is neat is that on the Auto Train, which is out of Virginia and goes down to Florida always shows a movie. It’s a long, overnight ride, so the movie breaks up the evening. Last time we were on the train, we saw the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie. We’d seen it in the theater, so it wasn’t our first time. Either way, it helped pass time. You can only read or play a game so long.

One of the things I did do on my flight was flip through some gossip mags. I bought three, but what seemed tedious is all three of them had many of the same pictures. I’d see the same shot of Drew Barrymore with her boyfriend in all three mags. Or I’d see the same picture of Cameron Diaz kissing someone on the set. No need to buy all three, when one will do the job. On the other hand, I had close to 2 hours in the airport to kill, along with the 2+ hour flight.

I didn’t get any peanuts….they’ve switched to pretzels. I guess it’s cheaper.

Tom’s Son Follows In His Footsteps

Tom Cruise’s son Connor will be following in his father’s footsteps. He’ll be appearing in his first movie. He’ll be filming with Will Smith, who has filmed with his own children as well. The upcoming movie will be called “Seven Pounds”. He plays the younger version of Will, and has finished shooting his portion.
