Ho, Ho, Ho….Hold On!
I went to see Fred Claus this weekend with Vince Vaughn. It was obviously the a piece written with Vince Vaughn’s usual character in place. He plays his part well, the problem is….well, the movie really wasn’t that funny. It tried to be, and I really wanted it to be. I’ve been wanting to see this movie for months! I was so sure it was going to be greatness, fabulous, fun and laughter.
The crickets could be heard in the audience. The only other thing you heard were little kids who were restless since they weren’t entertained. I’m not sure who the target audience for this movie was, because lots of families with small children were there, and I just don’t see this as a young kids movie. Sure, Santa Claus and all that, but honestly, it was more about relationships, and the main character. It just happened to be a brother story that took place in a unique setting.
Let’s see, the family in front of me, a teen, a mom and a 3 or 4 year old. The little kid was bored out of his mind, so climbing all over, and just didn’t want to be there. The teen was bored and texting through the movie, that was fun, a nice bright light in front of you while you’re in a dark theater watching a movie. I offered to change seats, but my son was fine where he was.
One adult, disappointed gives it a C to a C-, while my son said it was good/okay, just not real funny. Man, I wanted this to be funny. I felt over marketed to. You showed me the best parts in the previews and you just didn’t follow through. I laughed more during Norbit man….Ho, Ho, Ho….this is a no-go. I can’t recommend this movie, based on the fact that it moved WAY too slow in the beginning to hold anyone’s interest, and on the fact that the entire full theater remained silent during many of the “fun scenes”…there wasn’t laughter, there was silence. We were waiting…we kept waiting, but we were honestly let down.
Vince, I love ya man, but this one didn’t do it for me.
