YouTube and Digital Fingerprinting

Beck said the video recognition technology will allow those holding copyrights on videos to provide a digital fingerprint so that if anyone tries to share a copyrighted video, the system will shut it down within a minute or so.

Quoted from an AP news story posted on Mail.com

Let’s face it, YouTube is going to be changing. They have to, because what started out as people posting things freely, will now block a lot of those clips that people upload. The new digital fingerprint ability they are working on will deal with the copyright issues they’ve been facing in court.

Basically, they’ve been removing material when requested. Will it cut back on the number of music videos, movie clips and television clips from shows like Family Guy and others? Or will those execs start posting them, because they realize that the attention paid to their shows and music might not be so bad. A lot of movie companies are adding trailers to YouTube.com, presidential candidates understand the value there, as do music execs who drop a video. The question comes down to wanting control. Let’s see what takes shape in the next year, and if it remains what it was, or if another company rolls in, until it again is brought to court.
