Get Smart: Review

My son (14) and I (41) went to see “Get Smart”. I used to watch the television series with Don Adams, and loved it as a kid. My son went in, not knowing anything about the character.

I love the heart that they’ve given to the character, and Steve Carell did an excellent job in the part. Anne Hathaway did a bang up job as Agent 99.

It’s a fun movie that has you laughing, smiling, and having fun all the way through it. It’s a nice family film you can go to without being embarrassed in front of your kids.

I wouldn’t say it was belly laughs all the way through it, but we definitely laughed a lot. It had more heart than I expected, and kept us fully entertained.

Rant: Icee drinks set us back $5.00 each! Tickets $9.50 each

If There is Silence

I’ll be traveling in July. If there is silence for awhile, know I haven’t forgotten about my blog. I’m taking a vacation with my son. My husband will be here with the dogs, but he isn’t a blogger, so he won’t be filling in.

Alas, I’ve found some great cheap hotels for the in between road time. When I say cheap, I mean inexpensive, not tawdry and run down! I’m a hotel snob, so that wouldn’t work for me.

We’ll be in Orlando, Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach for a few. I’m looking forward to the trip, but not sure what kind of internet connection I’ll have at a few of the places. I know at 2 or 3 of them, I’ll be hooked up, but the final part of the trip, I don’t think I’ll have internet. We’ll see if there are any hot spots while I’m there. ;)

Reminder: Groomer Has It Starts Early!

If you watch “Groomer Has It” on Animal Planet, it starts at 8pm EST tonight, not 9pm.

At 8, there’s a special showing bloopers, unseen footage and other goodies. The actual final show is at 9pm. Just a head’s up in case you weren’t aware of the extra show before the main one!

It’s down to Jonathon and Artist! While Jonathon may be an exceptional groomer, his attitude sucks. (or what they show of it on television. He has a chip on his shoulder. A great groomer, should have a great attitude, and with that in mind, we want Artist to win!)

One Step at a Time

I don’t talk about it hear often, but I’ve been working with a personal trainer and dietitian since September. I’m not losing like the people on “The Biggest Loser”, and I’m not looking like one of those before and after pictures. At times, I’m tempted to take diet pills, but I’m not sure it’s the answer for me. Sure, lots of celebrities have promoted them over the years, Carmen Electra, Anna Nicole, and the likes, but as for me, I think I have to just keep moving more and eating better.

I’m also insulin resistant, which means that my insulin isn’t playing along like it should be. I’m on medication now, so I’m hoping that makes a difference.

I’d love to be one of those before and after people like Kirstie Alley, Valerie Bertinelli, or other people we see on TV, but I think it’s going to take me a little longer. Oh well, one step at a time.

Phil’s in Trouble

Did you watch Deadliest Catch this week? Phil’s got something going on, coughing up blood, and has a white spot on his x-ray. I hope it isn’t lung cancer. It doesn’t seem like it was actually a broken rib poking his lung after all, but the big slam during the storm aggravated something else.

Phil’s my favorite captain. I was really sad to see him so sick. The thing I hate about this, it’s a reality show, real people, not some made up character and not real health issues. This is real, Phil is a real person. :( Hope he’s okay.

7 Words on George Carlin

Funny, Outrageous, Silly, Unique, Entertaining, Laughter, Gone.

These words can be said on TV, while his famous 7 can’t. I once saw George Carlin perform live when I was a teenager. My parents brought my sister and I to one of his concerts. It was laugh until your sides hurt funny…and it left me a fan.

I’m a few days late. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to say. I was sad to hear he had passed. :\

When it comes down to it, nothing was more well known than his 7 word list, except maybe his list of names for a guy’s…well, you know. :)

I’d heard he had heart issues for awhile; I was unaware of that. Luckily it wasn’t anything like mesothelioma.

If you hadn’t ever heard George Carlin, give his recordings a go. They are classics!
I loved his unique perspective on comedy, and will miss it.

Wipe Out and Japanese Game Shows

We love obstacle games. We used to watch an “Extreme” show on Spike TV awhile back. I forget what it was called, but this was definitely something this new Wipe Out show was based on. Regardless, last night on ABC we were laughing so hard watching everyone do exactly that….Wipe Out! This is a show where people do zany obstacles in the best time and it’s fun to watch.

The next show that came on was “I Survived a Japanese Game Show”, and while we had fun watching it, this elimination thing where each week someone is booted off is getting old. Tired of this. I want to watch a show from start to finish each week. I don’t want to commit to a full season, based on watching one show. While we giggled and enjoyed the game, we prefer to watch the real versions that you can catch on G4 such as Ninja Warrior and Banzuke. My son introduced me to those shows, and they are a blast to watch. This other new version of eliminate someone each week on a reality type show…eh, not so much.

We’ll keep WipeOut! but the Japanese Game Show gets the boot at our house.

Make a Splash with Sexy Costumes

I’m a simple girl, and look like your basic suburban housewife. I don’t have the sparkle or zest that I used to sashay around with when I was in my early 20’s. I turned 41 this past week, and while I’m comfortable with my looks, sometimes I still want that sex kitten to come out.

Over at BuyCostumes.com, I saw some fun and sexy costumes. Maybe this Halloween I’ll spice things up at home and get a schoolgirl costume, or maybe a sexy mermaid costume!

My husband wouldn’t be expecting that! Maybe I’m not cut out to be a princess or mermaid, but maybe a blonde bombshell like Anna Nicole, Marilyn Monroe or something along that line. Hmmm, maybe with my shape, I’d make a more convincing Rosanne, Kirstie Alley or someone with a few more curves.

Since we are a celebrity, movie, music kind of blog, let me just list some of the fabulous get-ups they have available: Austin Powers, Nightmare on Elm Street, Supergirl, Cat Woman, the Flintstones, even one of the witches from the Wizard of Oz!

Here’s my favorite thing about BuyCostumes.com; they offer plus sizes! What that means is that even fabulous girls like me with a little extra padding can still find awesome halloween costumes to wear. That’s a big bonus in my book. So many places overlook people like myself.

Maybe this retro look would be cool! Love the high top boots, though who knows if they would zip up past my calves! That’s okay, boots or no boots, I’ll rock the look for my honey.

Halloween is going to be here before you know it. Have you thought about how you’ll grab everyone’s attention this year, and what you’ll be wearing? Maybe this year we’ll get our dogs involved. Jack is quite the ham, so he may love being dressed up.

Get Smart or Love Guru?

There are two movies on our radar, Get Smart and Love Guru. Honestly, they both look like they could be funny, but will probably not live up to my expectations. I’ll see them anyway…

Mike Myers rocked my world with Austin Powers, and I adored all three of the movies. Honestly, the Austin Powers series is one of my all time favorites. I love things like that, Naked Gun, and other silly in your face nonsense in a movie. Something about Mary….my all time favorite movie, but the Austin Powers series is close behind it.

For that reason, and only that reason, I’m giving Love Guru a chance. I like Mike’s humor, and even though it looks stupid, I’m going to see if he can tickle my funny bone again.

Steve Carrell is an actor I really enjoy watching. While I’m not a huge fan of “The Office” on TV, I do love him in movies. Pretty much anything I’ve seen him in, I’ve been happy with. I grew up watching Don Adams in Get Smart, so it will be fun to see it as a movie.

I hope at least one of them surprises me and has me laughing all the way through it. Which one do you think it will be?
